Bayonetta 2 slices into 3rd place on the Japanese sales charts

Sales are way down from the week leading up to Tokyo Game Show 2014. With the only new Japanese game in the top 30 released for the Wii U, seeing a title approach a million units would have been a miracle.

Bayonetta 2, the Platinum Games-developed Wii U exclusive that decided to stay firm in its exclusivity promise to Nintendo’s struggling console, debuted in third place. While it only managed to move 33,114 copies, the title may have the makings of a longtail performer, as it was actually awarded a (slightly) higher score by Japanese outlet Famitsu than either of the top two highest-selling titles at 9.5. If you’re waiting for the English version of the game, you still have a month to make up your mind.

With the Bayonetta sequel on the charts, Nintendo and Level 5 are still ruling the roost in Japan, with Nintendo’s latest installment of Smash Bros holding down the top spot with over 300,000 units sold. Youkai Watch 2 continues its amazing run with a respectable 60,450 units sold.

Destiny was still the fourth-best selling game on any platform, with the Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 versions good for fourth and sixth place respectively.
