Zomato shuts Pro subscription service in Indonesia, Philippines

Indian restaurant aggregator Zomato has ceased the operations of its premium Zomato Pro service in Indonesia and the Philippines, according to separate reports from CNN Indonesia and Rappler.

The announcement in Indonesia was made through the company’s official Twitter account in the country, while Filipino subscribers were informed through an emailed statement.

“You can continue using the membership benefits till November 30, 2020. Post this date, you will not be able to avail the benefits of your Zomato Pro membership,” read the company’s email, a copy of which has been seen by Rappler. It remains unclear if Zomato Pro in Indonesia has the same rules in place, but the company offered refunds to its users from both countries.

Previously known as Zomato Gold, Zomato Pro is a subscription service that lets users avail of exclusive dining and delivery offers from various restaurant, cafes, and bars. Despite ending the service, Zomato will still allow users to find and review restaurants in Indonesia and the Philippines.

The development comes as the company prepares for its initial public offering, which is set to happen in the first half of 2021, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal reportedly told employees through an email.

In the announcement, the chief executive said Zomato has raised US$102 million from US-based Tiger Global Management as part of its ongoing series J funding round.

“Tiger Global, Temasek, Baillie Gifford, and Ant Financial have already participated in our current round, and there are more big names joining the round – we estimate that our current round will end up with us at US$600 million in the bank very soon,” he added.
