We’re at the Tokyo Game Show and had a session with the developers of Gundam Breaker 2, here’s what you need to know about the next installment in everyone’s favorite mecha series.

Big in China

The traditional Chinese version is being developed simultaneously, i.e. the English version of the game with traditional Chinese subtitles, and will be out Winter 2014 on the Playstation 3, Playstation 4, and PS Vita.

Gameplay changes

Gundam Breaker 2 is centred around gunpla, collection and construction. Your gundam is made out of gunpla, and there is a team hunting aspect where you fight huge bosses to collect bits that you can then use to upgrade yourself.

Compared to Gundam EXVS FUll Boost series, it is an action game that focuses more on item collection. You can make combos in this game though, and equipping different parts gets you different skills and different combos.

Learnings from Gundam Breaker 1

The original Gundam Breaker was a little imbalanced because you could be overpowered if you just equipped strong gear from the start. With Gundam Breaker 2 you can level your parts up instead.
