Malaysia-based private investment firm RHL Ventures announced that it has invested an undisclosed amount in local online interior design marketplace Atap.co.
The money will be used to solidify Atap’s market presence in Malaysia and bankroll its physical “experience” center.
Founded in 2015, the startup wants to highlight the breadth of homegrown designers, which have the potential to stand toe-to-toe with their international peers.
“In today’s market, those in need of interior design work would typically find that their online search lists are dominated by large and expensive firms that can afford to maintain an online presence,” explained Shen Maosheng, Atap’s co-founder.
The platform matches interior design businesses with prospective clients. To date, it supports 1,580 interior designers, hosting more than 2,400 projects and 26,900 photo listings. Over the last two years, Atap listed nearly 3,000 renovation jobs worth more than US$100 million.
