Hello reader,
Everywhere you turn in the startup world, someone is talking about Web3 or doing something with blockchain. Honestly, it’s pretty dizzying and somewhat overwhelming.
Still, one area that’s quite familiar – thanks to the rise of Axie Infinity – is blockchain gaming. I think most people in the tech world are vaguely aware of how NFTs and blockchain can be used for games, forming rewards or tokens that people can then cash out.
Axie Infinity was just the start of this Web3 gaming wave, and plenty of firms like iCandy Interactive are looking to catch a ride. The company, which listed on the Australia Securities Exchange in 2016, has some exciting plans in the works to bridge the gaming and Web3 worlds.
Today we look at:
- The Web3 gaming vision of iCandy Interactive
- A video-processing startup that’s raised some cash
- Other newsy highlights such as a blockchain firm’s research center in Singapore and Fazz’s latest fundraise.

P.S: The 2022 Tech in Asia Conference is less than a week away, and we’ve got lots in store for attendees. This year, we’re holding a hybrid conference in Singapore. Sessions will be available online via the virtual stream, but there are also many exciting activities on the ground, such as the Startup Factory roadshows and the Speed Dating segments that match startups and investors.
Attendees at the event will also get to hear from some of the biggest leaders and changemakers in the region, such as Rameez Ansar, co-founder of Circles Life. Aside from his panel at the Conference, he’ll also be participating in an Ask Me Anything session during our TIA School Office Hours.
If there’s anything you’ve ever wanted to know about Ansar’s journey as a founder, this is a prime opportunity to get your questions in. We’ll see you there!

Web3 gaming is a busy, buzzy space, and one company that seems particularly exciting is iCandy Interactive. The firm released its earnings for the first half of the year, posting roughly US$10.7 million in revenue and an EBITDA of US$2.99 million. And for the first time in its seven-year history, it’s operationally profitable.
