Two months ago, Mark Zuckerberg pledged at least half of his wealth to the Bill and Melinda foundation, a Philanthropy program started by Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, his wife Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
Now, the foundation is heading to Asia, in particular India, Afghanistan and Pakistan to convince business leaders to do their part.
In Bill Gates’s third annual letter, he wrote “Polio once threatened children worldwide, but there are now just four countries where polio has never stopped circulating – Afghanistan, India, Nigeria and Pakistan. Last year saw remarkable progress in Nigeria and India, where polio cases dropped by about 95 percent compared to 2009. But even a few isolated cases can cross borders and spark an outbreak.”
In fact, his Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, together with Bill Gates has recently announced a $100 million partnership to immunize children in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Now, all eyes are on India.
“Any major advance in the human condition requires resolve and courageous leadership. We are so close, but we have to finish the last leg of the journey,” said Gates.
