Last week’s hot news also includes a rumor that Groupon.com had acquired Groupon.cn. We put it to a halt after getting confirmation from Groupon that “it is just a mere rumor.” More in China as Baidu once again got into trouble due to copyright issue and this time around it was music. But Baidu managed to turn things around quickly, as a company spokesman explained their solution in a panel at the GMIC pre-event dinner. Sina Weibo’s English user interface was also introduced last week.
Indonesia stepped up its mobile Internet gear as XL planned to add 655 3G base stations across the country. Kompas also launched a weekly digital supplement called Jendela on RIM’s Blackberry Playbook. More on RIM as the brand promoted its BlackBerry Playbook via a bus in Jakarta.
Two big players in the Japanese mobile scene, DeNA and NTT Docomo announced a partnership last week to link the Mobage gaming platform to Docomo’s i-mode feature phone web portal. CyberAgent Ventures also invested $1 million in Taiwan’s iPeen.
In Singapore, “Nicole Seah” is still buzzing hot right now. At the rate of her Facebook page growth, it is likely that Seah will overtake MM Lee as the number one Singpore politician on Facebook this week.
