Users, it seems, can no longer log in to both Gushcloud and ChurpChurp using Facebook Connect. A reader has pointed out to us that the Facebook sign-in button has been removed from the homepages of both companies.
Notably, both services have introduced an email signup system at almost the same time — just a day apart in fact. In an email to users, Gushcloud framed the introduction as a ” transition into a VERY exciting new phase.”
ChurpChurp’s Facebook app had apparently also been inaccessible for hours.
In its place is this message: “The app ‘ChurpChurp’ is temporarily unavailable due to an issue with its third-party developer. We are investigating the situation and apologize for any inconvenience.”
Both companies do roughly the same thing: They pay users to tweet or share an item on Facebook. For marketers, it’s a new way to reach out to consumers without being too overt, since people tend to trust personal recommendations more.
We do not know at this point why both startups have removed the Facebook login option. If done abruptly, it could result in a loss of users. Gushcloud has 10,000 monthly active users that connect via Facebook, while ChirpChirp has three times that amount.
Facebook has been known to be strict with its policy on advertising and promotions.
Neither companies have responded to SGE‘s queries.
