Amid its deeper focus on Southeast Asia, Apple will be opening its first store in Malaysia next month. Located at Kuala Lumpur’s The Exchange TRX mall, the store was initially set to open in February but was delayed to June 22.
The country marks the third Southeast Asian market where Apple has opened physical stores. Singapore was the first, with its first location launching in 2017, and a Bangkok store opened the following year.
Notably, Apple started recruiting staff in Malaysia in January of last year. In 2022, it launched its digital payment service, Apple Pay, in the country.
Recently, Apple reported a significant increase in quarterly revenue from China, despite a global drop in iPhone sales, according to Bloomberg. At the same time, with geopolitical tensions between the US and China, the company has increasingly looked to Southeast Asia as a buffer.
In April, the firm announced a US$250 million investment to expand its campus in Singapore, while unveiling plans for an Apple Developer Academy in Indonesia the same month. It is also planning to invest more in electronics suppliers based in Vietnam.
