"Anyone" could become the LoL Pro League's next show host (but it'll help if you're a pretty girl)

China’s professional League of Legends league, the LPL, is a big deal, and no wonder considering that LoL is the most popular game in the country. Now, Tencent is hosting an open contest to find an additional host for LPL programming, and at least in theory, anyone can apply.

According to the announcement, anyone over 18 is eligible regardless of age or nationality, but the submissions so far—which gamers can vote on—are limited to attractive young ladies. That’s not much of a surprise given that the contest is called the “Beautiful Woman Star Anchor Contest”.

In addition to a spot on the LPL commentary desk (though for how long?), the winner will get to make some original LoL-themed programming and will have the opportunity to hang out with some of the LPL’s biggest stars.

Once gamers have picked the top twelve contestants, the contest will move offline, where the lucky ladies will be split into four teams, each guided and advised by a big-name esports expert. From there, the teams will compete in everything from speaking ability to gaming ability to “reaction ability”—whatever that means—until a winner is chosen. All in all, it kind of sounds like a fangirl’s dream…and of course it has all the makings of a reality-show style production Tencent can use to drive up interest in the LPL.

Who knows how the contest will turn out, but it’s probably a good sign that Tencent is trying to build more interest and viewer participation in China’s e-sports scene. If you speak Chinese and want to enter, you can find all the details here.
