Anthropic inks $10b compute deal with Volta
Anthropic has agreed to buy US$10 billion of computing capacity over six years from Volta Infra Holdings, a UK-registered cloud infrastructure startup.
The capacity will be delivered in partnership with Bitdeer Technologies Group, a Singapore-based bitcoin miner and data center operator, for a 133-megawatt site in Norway, according to people familiar with the matter.
Volta, whose CEO Ricard Boada declined to identify the customer, said on August 4 that it had signed the contract with an unnamed AI lab.
Separately, Bitdeer said its Tydal facility in Trøndelag is being converted into an AI data center with 180 MW of installed capacity, targeted for completion in December 2026.
Nvidia said systems based on its Vera Rubin platform will be available through partners in the second half of the year and are designed for large-scale AI training and agentic AI inference.
The agreement adds to Anthropic’s recent infrastructure expansion, including a deal with SpaceX for computing capacity at Colossus 1 in Memphis and a US$1.8 billionn, seven-year agreement with Akamai focused on AI inference.
