Anthropic eyes Samsung for AI chip production, sources say

Anthropic is developing its own AI chips and has held talks with Samsung Electronics about becoming a manufacturing partner, according to three people familiar with the matter.

The move follows earlier reports that the AI company was exploring custom silicon in its early stages and still relies on chips from Google and Amazon to develop and run Claude.

For Samsung, the talks would add to its recent momentum in AI chip manufacturing.

The South Korean company held 7% of the pure-play foundry market in the first quarter, far behind TSMC.

The effort also fits a broader industry trend toward custom silicon.

Meta unveiled four in-house AI chips this year as AI developers seek more control over supply, pricing, and performance.
