Amprokan Blogger 2011: An Event for Environmentalist Bloggers

There are thousands of bloggers throughout Indonesia. Some of them organize offline events such as Pesta Blogger, whose name changed to ON-OFF this year. As if it’s not enough to accommodate all bloggers, there’s also a similar event named Amprokan Blogger 2011.

The event will be held on September 17th and 18th with the theme “Blogger Membudayakan Kecerdasan Ekologis” (in English, Blogger Cultivating Ecological Intelligence). It was chosen in order to develop environmental awareness among bloggers. And just like last year, the Bekasi Blogger Community is cooperating with local authorities to organize the event.

Amprokan is a Betawi word meaning ‘a meeting’. It is used to describe an informal gathering in a community. It seems that the event is meant to be a familiar place for everybody, including Tifatul Sembiring, Onno W. Purbo, Donny B.U., and Blontank Poer as this year guests.

The Amprokan Blogger committee emphasizes environmental issues to encourage bloggers to be more actively involved in promoting preservation through concrete actions. Last year, participants planted dozens of tree in the Jababeka Botanic Garden. While this year, participants will make a trip to the heavily-damaged mangrove forest in Muara Gembong, Bekasi.

Besides being a worthy cause, choosing an environmental issue is a fortunate differentiator as well, and a smart way to attract more people to come to Amprokan Blogger. Some people may be  interested in attending Social Media Festival this coming September. But those who see themselves as being a little more socially responsible surely won’t miss this meeting in Bekasi.
