The fifth annual Amazon Web Services (AWS) Start-Up Challenge has begun. The competition is seeking for the most innovative and creative startups that meets a need in the marketplace and has good potential for long-term success and scalability. The startups will also be judged on their implementation of AWS services (see contest website).
This is the first time the competition is open to participants from around the world, including Asia. No less than six global finalists will be picked and awarded US$10,000 in AWS credits and a trip to attend the final round of judging and awards ceremony. The grand prize winner will walk away with US$50,000 cash and US$50,000 in AWS credits, AWS premium support services for one year and technical mentorship from Amazon Web Services for one year, as well as a possible investment offer from Amazon.
New or existing businessess may participate in the competition, but they must sign up for an AWS account to be eligible. US$25 in AWS credits will also be distributed to all contestants after the grand winner is announced in December 2011. All entries must be submitted by Oct 2, 2011 at midnight, US Pacific time.
