Scorpio Electric’s new EV bike now open for pre-orders

Singapore-based electric vehicle (EV) firm Scorpio Electric has started accepting pre-orders for its latest electric bike, X1.

Interested customers can pre-order the EV via the company’s official website for US$1,000, though the motorbike itself retails for US$9,800 exclusive of taxes and other charges.

Scorpio Electric, which only produces a limited number of X1 units per year, aims to start shipping the bikes in late 2022 or early 2023.

This comes after another Singapore-based EV maker, Ion Mobility, announced that it would unveil its smart electric motorcycle later this year. Just over a week ago, Ion Mobility raised US$6.8 million in a seed round co-led by Quest Ventures and TNB Aura.

Scorpio Electric’s X1 can hit top speeds of 105 kilometers per hour and delivers up to 200 kilometers on a single charge. The vehicle, which can charge up to 90% in less than three hours, also comes with a few software-driven capabilities that can be accessed through a dedicated mobile app. These features include locking or unlocking the unit, finding charging stations, checking battery status, and getting anti-theft alerts.

Among its other features, the X1 comes with sensors and AI capabilities that help collect live data and improve riding efficiency, the company said.

“We are one step closer to sharing our vision with our riders – a future of electric mobility that was unperceivable,” Scorpio Electric’s deputy CEO, Joshua Goh, said in a statement.
