Alphabet raises stock sale to $85b for AI spending

Alphabet raised its planned equity sale to US$84.75 billion from the US$80 billion announced two days earlier.

Alphabet has been increasing investment in its tensor processing units (TPUs), which compete with Nvidia’s AI chips, and in data centers needed to support AI workloads.

The deal includes a US$40 billion at-the-market program and a US$10 billion share sale to Berkshire Hathaway.

At that size, the offering is set to be the largest equity sale on record, topping Petrobras’ roughly US$70 billion stock sale in 2010, which set a record.

Alphabet had already raised capital expenditure guidance for 2026 to US$180 billion to US$190 billion and said 2027 spending would increase significantly.
