Reforged Labs, a Singapore-based startup that built AI creative tools for mobile game marketers with teams in Vietnam and the US, said on August 1 that it was winding down after three years.

Co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Robert Huynh said the company would not reach the scale it had raised capital to achieve.

In 2024, Reforged Labs closed a US$3.9 million seed round led by Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm DCM. Investors also included Y Combinator, Goodwater Capital, Phoenix Fund, and gaming industry angels, including a co-founder of Sky Mavis and Sebastian Knutsson, co-founder of King.

The startup, founded by Robert Huynh and Oscar Xing Luo in September 2023, developed AI tools to automate video ad planning, generation, testing, and creative analysis for mobile game user acquisition.

Huynh said some customers signed six-figure contracts, but there were not many studios at that scale, and the company’s expansion beyond gaming did not work well enough.

Huynh also said rapid advances in AI were closing Reforged’s product gap. He argued that sophisticated game studios would soon be able to build much of the functionality themselves.

The company said it could have continued as a smaller business because its revenue was real, but Huynh said he would rather shut it down than let it shrink slowly.
