China’s Agibot hits 10,000 robots in rapid production ramp-up

Shanghai-based robotics firm Agibot said its 10,000th robot has officially rolled off the production line, around one quarter after it reported hitting 5,000 units.

At an event marking the milestone, co-founder, president, and CTO Peng Zhihui said 2026 will be a key period for wider deployment of general-purpose “embodied” robots, and argued that scaling depends on whether machines can run continuously in real-world settings such as factories.

Based on current growth trends, the company expects its annual shipments to reach “tens of thousands” of units by 2026.

Market tracker Omdia projected global humanoid robot shipments would reach 13,000 units in 2025, and said Agibot shipped over 5,100 units for a 39% share that year.

Implications, context, and why it matters.

AgiBot leans on rentals to sell robots

  • BotShare lets companies rent machines, and AgiBot says it wants the process to feel like sharing a power bank 1.
  • The service offers day rates from 899 euros, a little over US$1,000, for robots that can cost more than US$20,000 to buy 2.
  • The company also agreed to place robots in Fulin Precision auto parts factories, plus it won deals with state-owned China Mobile, China’s largest mobile carrier 3.
  • Beijing backs “embodied intelligence”, AI systems in robots that can sense and act in the physical world, as a way to upgrade manufacturing and lift future growth 3.

China leads early humanoid robot sales, similar to the EV run

  • In 2025 Chinese firms made nearly 90% of humanoid robots sold worldwide 4.
  • Unitree sold 5,500 humanoid robots in 2025. Shanghai-based Agibot sold 5,168 4.
  • Omdia (a tech market research firm) put Figure AI (a humanoid robotics startup) near 150 robots in 2025. It also placed Agility Robotics (the company behind the Digit humanoid robot) and Tesla at roughly 150 each 4.
  • Both Unitree and Agibot beat Tesla’s 2025 production goal of 5,000 humanoid robots, which Tesla missed 4.
  • China has scaled output with state support plus supply chain advantages. Elon Musk said Tesla sees no significant competitors outside China, to the best of its knowledge 4.
