In a statement, AC Ventures said Hellawell will support the firm in strategic business introductions and sector research. He was a former venture partner in another Indonesia-based VC firm, Alpha JWC Ventures.
He previously worked together with AC Ventures founding partner Pandu Sjahrir, who was a chairman at Sea Group Indonesia. Hellawell also led a successful limited partner investment into AC Ventures’ fund in 2018.
“I have known the partners for more than 15 years. I have worked with every one of the general partners across a number of activities, and I am convinced that AC Ventures is Indonesia’s most visionary and globally-minded venture capital firm,” Hellawell said.
AC Ventures was founded in 2019 as a merger between two Indonesian VC firms, Agaeti Venture Capital and Convergence Ventures. It just raised more than US$205 million for its third fund late last year and counts prominent companies such as Shipper, Stockbit, Ula, Aruna, and Astro as part of its portfolio.
