A16z-backed defense tech firm Anduril raises $5b at $61b valuation
Anduril Industries, a California-based defense tech startup, raised US$5 billion in a round led by Thrive Capital and Andreessen Horowitz, doubling its valuation to US$61 billion amid strong investor interest in the sector.
Anduril was seeking about US$4 billion from the two firms.
The company was last valued at US$30.5 billion in a June 2025 funding round.
Its revenue more than doubled to US$2.2 billion in 2025 while its workforce nearly doubled over the past year.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Anduril’s value rests on a broad product lineup and tighter control of production
- Anduril sells more than sensors and drones. It builds systems for air, land, and sea, including Lattice AI software and Dive-LD, an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) that works underwater without a crew 1.
- That breadth has brought long-term deals, including a US$1.1 billion program of record with the Royal Australian Navy for Ghost Shark XL-AUVs and a US$642 million U.S. Marine Corps agreement for installation counter-small unmanned aircraft systems, which detect and stop small hostile drones 1.
- It also pulls more of its supply chain inside the company. In 2023, Anduril bought rocket propulsion startup Adranos to add solid rocket motor work in-house 1.
- That setup helped Anduril build Roadrunner in about two years. Raytheon’s Coyote took seven years to field, said Palmer Luckey, founder of Anduril 1.
Investors are backing a defense company that runs more like software
- The reported US$61 billion valuation suggests investors see defense tech closer to a fast-growing software business than a traditional contractor.
- Its projected revenue multiple is roughly 14x. Legacy defense contractors trade at less than 3x revenue, which means investors are betting on a different model 1.
- That gap puts pressure on Pentagon buyers to work with newer suppliers. The Defense Innovation Unit, the U.S. military group that brings commercial technology into defense, chose Dive-LD for an undersea drone prototyping effort 2.
- It also pushes older defense firms to team up or fall behind. Anduril said it joined Boeing on the U.S. Army’s new midrange interceptor, where Anduril would supply the solid rocket motor 1.
