Make friends, get paid early, and look good. Friday may still be a day away, but these up-and-coming startups seem to have brighter days in mind for you. In the meantime, an organic renewable fuel company raised some money to keep developing stoves for rural India. Check out these four torch-carrying startups.

Affimity

Affimity, a social networking startup based in Bangalore and San Francisco, raised US$1.2 million in angel funding from Silicon Valley angel investors and founders.

Affimity-logo-betaAffimity was founded in 2014 by Venkata Ramana, Amar J Singh, and Parveen Mittal, when one of the founders was having trouble finding a group of people online with whom he could bond over parenthood. The startup combines social feeds with interest-specific television channels (think your Facebook feed or Tumblr dash married to a specific type of Pinterest board). The company strives to help people with mutual passions and interests meet each other.

Affimity will use the funding to expand their services in India and internationally, as well as strengthen its team. By December, it plans to reach a target 10 million global user base, with India making up 40 percent.

“Our immediate plan is to provide better content and community experience as we reach out to more people,” said Parveen in a statement. “We are continuously adding channels as well as customizing each of them to suit the requirement of that particular community.”

The portal has over 35 channels, as well as Android and iOS apps with hundreds of thousands of downloads.

Biomass cooking stove maker Greenway Appliances bagged US$2.5 million in a series A round of funding today from former Genpact CEO Pramod Bhasin. Acumen, a global non-profit investment organization that focuses on poverty, and Asha Impact founder Vikram Gandhi also participated in the round.

Founded in 2011, Greenway designs and distributes home energy appliances for rural customers. It offers two types of biomass cooking stoves that range from US$22 to US$37.
