Indonesia celebrated National Education Day on May 2nd, and on that day the Ministry of National Education (represented by the Minister Mohammad Nuh) signed an agreement with Microsoft Indonesia at the Ministry of National Education office, Jakarta. The agreement aims to improve the quality of education and reform the knowledge and use of communication and information technology (ICT). Microsoft was represented by its President Director, Sutanto Hartono.
The focus of the cooperation is the Microsoft Partners in Learning (PIL) program, which is an “innovative teacher” program intended to improve teaching methods. This collaboration covers a remarkable scope: 165,000 schools, 4500 universies, and a total of 45 million students across Indonesia.
Microsoft will also provide an e-mail service for interaction and information sharing among teachers, education workers and students through the Microsoft Live @ Edu. Schools in Indonesia also get some free software packages through Microsoft DreamSpark, so that students can download professional software to help their academic process, as well as their careers in the future.
Sutanto Hartono said that Microsoft has the vision to support innovative people throughout Indonesia. Thanks to this agreement, it is expected that education in Indonesia twill make great strides, particularly in the area of ICT.
