The Groupon Clones in Indonesia

Currently, Indonesia has 23 active Groupon clones. Here’s the list compiled by Natali Ardianto. Yes, it’s quite a number of clones, but most people can only name a few of them. For example, DisDus and Lapar are some which I can remember off the top of my head.

We have covered the clones in China here, but what about Indonesia? Allow me to introduce some of them.

As reported live by our very own Willis Wee during Jakarta Ventures Night, Disdus is the largest group buying site in Indonesia, hitting 140,000 unique visitors this month. Disdus also plans to expand to other cities in Indonesia and we can expect more growth from Jason and his team. Lapar.com, which means hungry in Indonesian,  has 8,800 members and 44% of them are said to be active members who deposit money into their accounts. A total of 500 million IDR was saved from all coupon sales.

Even one of the top discount sites in Indonesia, AdaDiskon followed the “Groupon trend” by launching AkuPlusKamu (translated as MePlusYou). AkuPlusKamu is basically a Groupon clone powered by social media. On Twitter and Facebook, AdaDiskon has gathered over 94,000 and 54,000 bargain hunters, respectively. In my opinion, I don’t see why AdaDiskon can’t compete with the big names given the sheer size of bargain hunters it has gathered on social platforms.

More clones, more deals, more confusion. SuperBestDeal, the Groupon clone aggregator came into play. Launched early this year, SuperBestDeal aims to aggregate all the Groupon clones deals to provide a one-stop service for Indonesian bargain hunters.

The number of Groupon clones that have mushroomed over the years is amazing, and I believe  it’s just a start. The question is how many would survive once the real Groupon enters Indonesia?
