Fake Twitter Accounts of Indian Politicians

Since ages, Twitter and Facebook have been witnessing fake accounts posting hideous information in the name of politicians and top celebrities. That’s what recently happened with the President of Indian National Congress- Sonia Gandhi. We made a check and found a cache Twitter profile of Sonia Gandhi. The person behind @SoniaGhandhi has somehow stopped the impersonation.

There have been similar instances where top political leaders like India Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have been victims of these doings. Mind you, the people behind these are quick and smart to take on the current issues and comment in the same tonality as these leaders. Sensitive topics like alleged corruptions in 2G Spectrum allocation, S-band deal, Commonwealth Games and Adarsh Society have been commented on by fakes.

1. Sonia Gandhi

President of Indian National Congress

Fake tweet on the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) issue: “After careful evaluation of outcome, Congress high council has agreed for JPC. We have nothing to hide.”

Fake tweet Indian Space Research Organization (SRO) and Adarsh scams: “JPC might include ISRO and Adarsh scams. Congress has nothing to hide because what’s hidden will never be found,” says another tweet.

Fake tweet on the infamous Kalmdi from CWG 2010: “Most countries make people poor through taxes. We make people like (Suresh) Kalmadi rich. That’s what makes us so wonderful.”

2. Manmohan Singh

Prime Minister of India

Fake Tweet: A tweet representing the Prime Minister of India as went saying: “Madam ji, left can never be right ji. Purulia can never be Rae Barreily Ji.” This was based on the comment on the JPC issue.

There is no official word from Congress stating any of the leaders being present on Twitter. Apparently these fake accounts are affecting the image of political leaders. As Twitter users, we should differentiate between the official and fakes. But of course, that is assuming if we can.
