Ravi Venkatesan Quits Microsoft India

The head of Microsoft India, Ravi Venkatesan has announced his resignation. This is the second time a top official has quit the software giant in the last six months. The previous top official- Rajan Anandan, who left Microsoft India, was named head of Google India operations last month.

“It has been a privilege for me to work with a company that impacts billions of people across the world with its products and services, and to be part of an industry that has shaped how the world views India […] The best part of the seven years has been the opportunity to work with some of the brightest people and iconic leaders like Bill Gates,” Venkatesan said.

One of the reasons for Ravi Venkatesan’s exit is Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s plans for a global management shake-up, which aimed at adding senior product executives with an engineering background. This action could be looked at as a bid to catch up with rivals like Google and Apple in various product markets.

In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Venkatesan said  “Microsoft is expected to announce my successor very shortly. It’s likely to be from outside Microsoft, somebody probably with a lot of experience and deep understanding and insights about India and the Indian market.”
