It’s official.
Without us, social media sites will never grow this big. Brian Solis, an original thought leader of social media did a simple data collection, which was later used by Information Is Beautiful to prove women’s social media domination!
With the exception of Linkedin, YouTube, deviantART, Delicious and Digg, all other sites observed have women outnumbering men.
Digg is the only “macho” site with 64% male users.

Surprising?
Some are not surprised by the result because women are generally considered to be more sociable than men. But there are others who did not expect such imbalance. Whether women really rule social media is an unfair question here and hey, it’s social media, let’s move on to something more important.
It’s definitely good news for companies promoting products for females but what does this mean to marketers and the PR people?

Sarah,
I found you through a twitter link. This was really interesting.
You posed some good thoughts, and especially for
marketing and promotion of products. Thanks for your
research and interesting article.
doesn't surprise me. women are social.
Actually, facebook and myspace have more spammers than twitter. its just easier to find them on twitter.
Yup it might include spam bots and i guess that problem is faced by Twitter only. There's this discussion going around that says we should look at the quality of users rather than numbers (: but its all good fun!
LOL.
This is indeed great news for marketers whose target market are females. I don't really mind who is dominating social media as long as they are human. Well, if a study comes out that dogs rule social media, then that would be another story. Another creepy story.
I am a little curious about the twitter stats, did this negate spam bots? I only ask because I am followed by a few “hot chicks” every couple days.
Yes, I'm pretty suprised. I knew women were outnumbering men in Twitter, but not in the other social media. Good news.
