With immense competition and hundreds of Groupon clones lurking around the world, every clone needs to somehow find a way to differentiate itself from the crowd. Snapdeal.com, an up-and-coming India-based groupon clone, funded by Nexus Venture Partners and Indo US Venture Partners, has found a unique way to stand out from the crowd, and do some good in the process. The company has adopted a village called Shiv Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, India and renamed it to Snapdeal.com Nagar.
The one-year-old online group-buying start-up will develop the village’s infrastructure, including installation of water pumps and support of the local school and hospital. Shiv Nagar’s residents, many of whom have not even heard of e-commerce or the Internet, have decided to take on the company’s name as an expression of gratitude.
Snapdeal is one of the pioneers in the Indian group-buying deals realm with $12 million in funding and over five million subscribers.
Kunal Bahl, CEO of Snapdeal.com, believes that this is the company’s way of giving back to the society:
We are glad to contribute and support the villagers in various infrastructure needs such as creating provisions for drinking water, and also help them with necessary inputs for their upcoming school and hospital in a long term association with the community.

Great way for SnapDeal to get exposure and media coverage for their business, and good that they are doing some CSR too.
This is Nice Idea ! !
Thx ! !
