The United States on Monday announced criminal charges against China’s Huawei, escalating a fight with the world’s biggest telecommunications equipment maker days before trade talks between Washington and Beijing.

One set of charges accuses Huawei chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou of conspiring to violate US sanctions on Iran, involving bank and wire fraud. A separate case alleges the Chinese company stole robotics technology from US carrier T-Mobile.
Meng, the daughter of Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei, was detained last month by authorities in Canada as she fights extradition to the US.
