Did you have a good rest to close 2024? Because it appears that China-based firms didn’t – they dominate our list of deals in a manner I’ve never seen in all my time writing this newsletter.
What does this mean? Could 2025 be China’s year? It’s too early to say, but I guess it’s another reminder that the tech industry is a 24/7, 365 beast.

The biggest deals by country
🇨🇳 Chinese biotech company AusperBio has raised a US$73 million series B funding round. Participating investors include CDH Investments, Hankang Equity Investment, and InnoPinnacle Fund.
🇧🇭 Calo is an app that provides personalized meal plans for busy people through nutritional algorithms. The Bahrain-headquartered firm closed a US$25 million series B round, with the money coming from Khwarizmi Ventures, Nuwa Capital, and STV.
🇮🇳 Captain Fresh, an India-based fish and seafood marketplace, has received US$12 million in strategic funding from Motilal Oswal Asset Management Company.
🇯🇵 MabGenesis offers fully species-specific therapeutic antibodies to humans and companion animals. The Japanese biotech firm has secured US$3.2 million in bridge funding from Axil Capital, Kyushu Open Innovation Fund, and Miyazaki Taiyo Capital.
