For those of us in the Asian tech and business space, we’re familiar with Huawei as a big name in information and communications technology, building innovative infrastructure and solutions that underpin many of the region’s biggest companies.
This same level of innovation also applies to its B2C efforts. From smartphones to smart watches, Huawei has developed a suite of products to meet the needs of consumers.

Tech in Asia was invited to attend the Huawei Innovative Product Launch in Bangkok on May 7. With the theme “Now Is Your Spark,” the event showcased Huawei’s latest slate of consumer products, the innovations behind them, and how they’re sparking movement, creativity, and more in its users.
The road to innovation
The event kicked off with a keynote by James Warren, Huawei’s head of international media. He highlighted how innovation sits at the core of everything the company does.
“We know innovation is never instant,” Warren said. “It is built on years of commitment and persistence, and with over 165,000 patents worldwide, we are turning technology into meaningful experiences that make life better for every user.”

In 2025, Huawei’s revenue exceeded US$126 billion. Its R&D investment in the same year stood at 21.8% of total revenue, highlighting the value that the company places on new ideas, products, and services.
Out of all the products launched at this year’s event, the two standouts were the HUAWEI MatePad Pro Max and the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 series.
Mobile productivity at your fingertips
The HUAWEI MatePad Pro Max is the latest in Huawei’s tablet lineup. We got a chance to try it out at the event, and the first thing that stood out was how it’s significantly thinner than your average smartphone, measuring 4.7 millimeters in thickness. Additionally, at 499 grams, its weight was almost imperceptible to me. These features make it the world’s thinnest and lightest 13-inch+ tablet at the time of writing.
This is made possible by the use of Huawei’s Cloud Falcon Architecture, which involves an integrated all-metal unibody design. This means that the back cover and mid-frame of the tablet are formed as a single piece, eliminating one layer of material and adhesive.

This reduces the internal structure from four layers to three, which decreases the device’s weight and thickness. It’s also what allows the tablet to have a 60% improvement in overall bending resistance compared to its predecessors, increasing the durability of the product.
Turkish content creator Bilge Ozsar took the stage to share his experiences with the HUAWEI MatePad Pro Max. He highlighted the tablet’s AI-driven features such as the WPS Office intelligent productivity suite, which summarizes documents and extracts insights from them, and the AI Handwriting Enhancement tool, which can turn messy scribbles into legible script.
“All of these features and many more things, like the organizing part of my brain, [have] been upgraded,” shared Ozsar. “It feels like I now have the second brain that I’ve never had before.”

Other functionalities of the tablet include document creation, spreadsheet data analysis, presentation design, and PDF summarization. It also has system-level call noise cancellation and a high-quality camera to enable productive calls for busy executives and workers on the go.
A lifestyle partner on your wrist
The other standout was the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 series, which has a Pro and regular version.
“Design is not just a personal question. It’s a statement about who you are and how you move through the world,” said Farangis Sultanzoda, senior product expert at Huawei. “We went obsessive on every detail of this design.”
The regular HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 features a 1.82-inch display, while the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 Pro is bigger with a 1.92-inch screen framed by 1.8 mm black borders, giving it an 83% screen-to-body ratio.

One of the watch’s key features is how it offers granular data about a user’s activities, be it tennis or trail running. The GPS on the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 series uses an upgraded version of Huawei’s Sunflower Positioning System, offering 45% stronger signals and 40% better distance accuracy than the previous generation.
As part of the presentation, Indonesian actress Fanny Ghassani shared her personal experiences using the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 Pro. As an avid tennis player, features such as the ability to track how often she uses her forehand versus her backhand have unlocked new insights into her game. When she golfs, she has access to the course information right on her wrist, giving her greater confidence when she plays.
These detailed insights have motivated her to keep active, despite her busy lifestyle.
“I tried so many sports, so many workouts, but what keeps me going is actually the data,” Ghassani shared. “Especially [since] I started using a Huawei smart watch four years ago, I check all my workout and sport performance daily because even small progress gives me motivation [to] keep improving.”
The watch has numerous other features, from cardiovascular health management to mental well-being tools, but our favorite at Tech in Asia is the Mini Workout feature.

With the help of a cute panda companion, you can engage in short, simple workouts that don’t require much time or space. It lets you get some movement even on the busiest days – adorable and effective, in our opinion.
Innovation at the forefront
The HUAWEI MatePad Pro Max and the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 series were the biggest stars of the show, but they weren’t all that the company unveiled. Other products we got to see were:
- HUAWEI WATCH ULTIMATE DESIGN Spring Edition, created in partnership with jewelry designer Francesca Amfitheatrof
- HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner 2 Racing Legend Edition, focused on high-level performance and data for elite runners
- HUAWEI WATCH KIDS X1 and X1 Pro, which comes with safety features that give kids freedom to explore and grow, while offering parents peace of mind
- HUAWEI FreeClip 2, which are lightweight open-ear earbuds with noise cancellation and other features
- HUAWEI nova 15 Max, a smartphone offering durability and AI-driven tools
The event was an insightful look into what goes on behind the hood building consumer products that meet people’s needs. Hearing from real users as part of the presentation elevated the experience, granting us fresh insight into how people actually use these products and the opportunities it offers.
These products, according to Alex Huang, CMO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, showcase how Huawei harnesses innovation to improve lives, helping every user “find their spark.”
“We believe everyone carries a spark ready to shine, because when you find your spark, you begin to change your future,” he said.
Huawei is a leading global provider of information and communications technology infrastructure and smart devices, committed to bringing digital to every person, home, and organization for a fully connected, intelligent world.
