What do we usually do before we buy things? Research. Most of us would search online to learn about product specifications and deals. But sometimes, the large search engines aren’t the best way to get pre-buying research done.
We need something more specific and to the point. In Indonesia, there is one: Pricearea is a price comparison start-up that helps Indonesians find and compare products better and faster. The name “PriceArea” comes with good reasons. Andry Suhaili, founder and CEO of PriceArea told Penn Olson that the words ‘Price’ and ‘Area’ were chosen because when it comes to shopping, the most important things that matter, are “how much it costs and where to get it.”
“As a price comparison website, PriceArea connects Online Shoppers with thousands of merchants – Local Stores, Online Stores and Online Marketplaces. Our goal is to make online shopping easier and quicker,” added Suhaili
PriceArea.com was developed in November 2009 and the beta version was launched on mid July 2010. It is also the first price comparison search engine in Indonesia. At PriceArea, users know exactly where to search and find information. The design and user interface are simple and to the point.
“We provide much larger offerings to our users. As a price and product search engine, we are able to provide our users with the most relevant and accurate results. Users can even control and adjust the search results through our smart sorting and filtering,” said Suhaili when asked on PriceArea’s differentiation points.
“We have more to offer than other price comparison sites. Through our community page, we’re able to encourage users to return. Our community page also encourages users to share their shopping experiences, create wish lists, and receive deal alerts and many more,” he added.
PriceArea is backed by East Ventures, an investment company which focuses on Internet start-ups in South East Asia. PriceArea is working closely under their mentorship to transform into a prominent player in the shopping search engine industry in Indonesia.
PriceArea currently has about 1,150 online stores and marketplaces listed. 450 of its registered users have more than 1.2 million products to choose from. The site, PriceArea.com, generates more than 200,000 unique visits each month. As a first mover in the country and with Indonesia’s ever-growing Internet population and affluence, PriceArea’s potential to succeed is certainly there.
