SingTel and Axiata Among 4 Telcos Keen to Enter Myanmar

Bloomberg reports that at least four major telecoms firms are vying to be granted licenses to operate in the newly opened up Myanmar market. Singapore’s SingTel (SGX:T48) and Telemedia are in contention, along with Malaysia’s Axiata (MYX: 6888), and Norway’s Telenor (NASDAQ:TELNF).

Two licenses are up for grabs as Myanmar aims to get phone coverage in 80 percent of the country by 2016. (Hat-tip to SGentrepreneurs for spotting this).
