New York Times Joins Bloomberg in Getting Blocked in China Over Leadership Exposés

Many in China are reporting that the New York Times website is blocked today – both the English and the Chinese version. The lead story on the NYT right now (in both languages, see here and here) is an exposé of the huge wealth accrued by the relatives of China’s prime minister, Wen Jiabao, in the years since his rise to the top.

Bloomberg has been largely blocked in China since a similar exposé earlier this year of Xi Jinping (story here), the man set to be installed as the country’s next president.

With China’s Congress about to convene for the once-in-a-decade leadership changeover, many in the country are finding the internet getting slower, with overseas sites being squeezed even more than they are already.
