Zepto, Orange Health to trial in-app diagnostics in Indian cities

Zepto has launched a pilot for in-app diagnostic services in partnership with Orange Health in select Indian cities.

Zepto is a quick commerce platform operating in India, while Orange Health is a diagnostics provider.

The service, called Zepto Diagnostics, is available in Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, and is currently in beta.

Users can book tests such as full-body checkups and blood work, with Orange Health handling both sample collection and report delivery.

Sample collection is offered within 60 minutes, and reports are delivered in under six hours, the companies said.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Orange Health holds NABL accreditation, on-time delivery data stays unclear

  • Orange Health has National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) accreditation in Bangalore and Noida. It also has it in Hyderabad and Gurgaon, with Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) approval that meets national standards for diagnostic testing 1.
  • The company markets 60-minute sample collection and sub-6-hour reports. No public data backs up on-time performance across all launch cities 1.
  • ISO 15189:2022 is a standard for medical laboratory quality, a global benchmark for quality plus competence. It requires technical competence with management systems in place. Orange Health’s NABL certification signals compliance with these requirements 2.
  • No verified delivery data makes it hard to judge if Zepto Diagnostics can keep promised turnaround times at scale, especially as quick commerce moves into time-sensitive healthcare.

Quick commerce moves into diagnostics and opens B2B supply routes

  • Vendors can sell into quick commerce players now testing healthcare 3. That includes phlebotomy staffing (trained professionals who draw blood), cold-chain logistics (temperature-controlled transport with storage for samples), plus consent management infrastructure (systems that capture patient consent then store it).
  • Blinkit, BigBasket, Swiggy Instamart, as well as Flipkart Minutes (Indian quick commerce and grocery platforms) have entered quick medicine delivery. This hints at interest in healthcare beyond diagnostics 3.
  • Business-to-business (B2B) vendors can target platforms with dark store networks, local micro-fulfillment centers for rapid delivery. Blinkit runs 791 dark stores, Instamart 609, Zepto 500 4.
  • Payment infrastructure providers (for example, payment gateways and subscription billing platforms) can tap recurring revenue in healthcare quick commerce 3. Chronic illness medication drives demand with higher customer lifetime value than groceries.
