Zeekr plans South Korea debut as Chinese EVs expand abroad

Zeekr, the premium EV brand of Chinese Geely Auto Group, is set to debut in South Korea in May 2026 as Chinese automakers seek to build on the local success of BYD in the premium segment.

Zeekr is expected to launch the 7X luxury electric SUV as its first model and position it against the Genesis GV70 and Tesla Model Y.

A gradual rollout is expected with a likely prioritization of brand recognition over rapid sales growth.

BYD entered South Korea in January 2025 and Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association (KAIDA) data show it sold 1,347 vehicles in January 2026.

Xpeng, a Chinese EV maker, set up a local subsidiary in June 2025 and is considering the P7 sedan or G6 SUV as its initial offering.

Industry officials expect the rise of BYD to encourage more Chinese EV entries into the Korean market.
