Xpeng, a China-based electric vehicle maker, said on June 10 that CEO He Xiaopeng will lead its robotics unit effective immediately.

Xpeng confirmed that Shi Xiaoxin had resigned as senior director of robotics product planning.

The move comes as the company pushes to commercialize its humanoid IRON robots and begin mass production by the end of 2026.

In a letter, He said competition in robotics is intensifying.

Xpeng said in late May that it expects to trial the robots in its retail stores before delivering them to commercial customers in China and overseas from 2027.

The target comes as China’s humanoid robot market moves toward large-scale production, with domestic shipments projected to reach 62,500 units in 2026.

Chinese authorities have also introduced a national standards framework covering applications, safety, and ethics.

Xpeng’s first-quarter revenue fell 17.6% year on year, while its net loss widened from a year earlier.
