Xiaomi has filed with China’s industry ministry to add extended-range electric passenger vehicles to its range, according to a ministry notice published on June 10.

The notice concerns Xiaomi’s ability to build those vehicles at its Beijing plant, rather than a filing for a specific model.

It did not disclose the vehicle type, engine supplier, battery setup, driving range, or fuel consumption figures.

Vehicles sold in China must be listed with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The filing marks a regulatory step toward commercialization, not a confirmed launch.

Xiaomi is entering a segment that sold more than 1 million vehicles in China in 2024. In 2025, seven of the 10 best-selling extended-range sport utility vehicles in China came from Li Auto and Huawei-backed Aito.

Xiaomi currently offers the battery-powered SU7 sedan and YU7 sport utility vehicle.
