Xiaomi hits $15.5b in Q1 revenue, beats estimates

Xiaomi, a Chinese technology company, announced its highest revenue and profit for the first quarter of 2025 in a financial report released on May 27, 2025.

The company reported a revenue increase of 47.4% year-on-year, totaling 111.3 billion yuan (US$15.48 billion). This surpassed analysts’ expectations of 107.6 billion yuan (US$14.95 billion), according to LSEG data.

Adjusted net profit reached a record 10.7 billion yuan (US$1.48 billion), representing a 64.5% increase from the previous year. This exceeded the forecast of 8.96 billion yuan (US$1.24 billion).

Xiaomi President Lu Weibing attributed this growth to the company’s emphasis on high-end products such as smartphones and home appliances.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Xiaomi’s evolution from “Apple of China” to high-end competitor shows rare successful upmarket migration

Xiaomi’s record-high quarterly revenue of 111.3 billion yuan ($15.48 billion) represents a remarkable evolution from its founding strategy.

When established in 2011, Xiaomi explicitly operated on the principle of “first get big, then get good,” undercutting competitors on price while maintaining reasonable quality 1.

The company originally pledged to limit hardware profit margins to just 5%, positioning itself as a budget alternative to premium brands while selling exclusively online to minimize costs 23.

This latest quarter demonstrates a successful pivot to premium markets, with the adjusted net profit jump of 64.5% year-on-year validating President Lu Weibing’s statement about focusing on high-end products 3.

This upmarket migration is particularly notable as many consumer electronics brands struggle with this transition. Xiaomi has managed it while maintaining its original customer base.

The company’s transformation challenges conventional wisdom in brand positioning, proving that with the right execution, a value brand can successfully reposition itself in premium segments without abandoning its core appeal.

2️⃣ Xiaomi’s ecosystem strategy creates powerful cross-category momentum

Xiaomi’s expansion from smartphones into electric vehicles is paying dividends, with its EV business generating 18.1 billion yuan in quarterly revenue and delivering 75,869 SU7 sedans.

The company has systematically built an ecosystem of over 1,600 product SKUs across multiple categories, creating brand loyalty that facilitates entry into new markets 2.
