Workplace software startup Whatfix flags cost of poor adoption

Whatfix published results from a Forrester Consulting study it commissioned that estimates a mid-sized enterprise of around 1,000 employees could lose US$10.9 million a year from poor digital adoption.

The study surveyed senior enterprise decision makers across major global markets.

The study estimates 728 hours lost per employee and found 76% of leaders prioritise AI adoption, while 27% see digital adoption as a critical enabler.

Whatfix’s CEO said companies are rolling out AI faster than users are adopting it.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

The $10.9 million loss figure shapes Whatfix’s pre-IPO story

  • A commissioned study lands as Whatfix plans an IPO within two years, while aiming for annual recurring revenue above $150 million 1.
  • That goal rises from its current $58 million ARR 1.
  • Whatfix is pitching the digital adoption platform market, which helps employees learn and use workplace apps, valued at USD 1.24 billion in 2025 and projected to grow 13.5% a year 2.
  • It ties the $10.9 million loss figure to a multi-million dollar workplace gap the product claims to fix, and it added amit sureka as CFO in early 2026 to support that message.

The race to adopt AI is creating a productivity tax

  • The report finds 76% of leaders prioritize AI, yet only 27% treat digital adoption as a required enabler.
  • Many firms pour money into AI, while employees still struggle with new tools. Gartner links that to a 9% to 12% drop in digital worker productivity over the last two years 3.
  • That gap can cap returns on enterprise AI budgets because adoption hurdles keep dragging down day-to-day work.
  • Digital adoption platforms are moving past on-screen tips. Gartner expects them to become “orchestrators” that coordinate first- and third-party AI agents and AI assistants across an application ecosystem 3.
