The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has fined WhatsApp US$25.4 million.

For five years, the platform must stop sharing user data with Meta’s other units for advertising.

The CCI’s decision comes after a 2021 investigation into WhatsApp’s privacy practices.

The update demanded users agree to extensive data sharing, eliminating their ability to opt out.
