Vietnam’s FPT joins Qualcomm-led global 6G coalition

FPT Corporation, a Vietnamese technology and IT services firm, has joined a global coalition led by Qualcomm Technologies that was announced at Mobile World Congress 2026.

The initiative sets a milestone-driven roadmap with early demonstrations planned, pre-commercial 6G networks targeted for 2028, and commercial rollouts expected from 2029.

6G is designed as an AI-native platform integrating ultra-high-performance connectivity, sensing, and distributed computing to support new AI-powered applications across industries.

By participating, FPT aims to leverage its digital engineering, AI, and system integration expertise to help move 6G from research to real-world deployment.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

### FPT is building Vietnam’s digital foundation from the ground up

  • FPT’s work on 6G sits within a wider push that includes connectivity, AI, and long-term infrastructure tie-ups.
  • It is working with Ericsson to speed up 5G uptake, with a focus on real uses in manufacturing and healthcare 1.
  • FPT also signed a framework cooperation agreement with Abu Dhabi-based technology holding group G42 (an AI and cloud-focused investment group) to build sovereign AI capabilities and cloud infrastructure in Vietnam, backed by consumption commitments of up to US$1 billion 2.
  • These deals fit Vietnam’s goal of becoming an AI-native society and a leading AI hub in Southeast Asia 2.

### Qualcomm’s coalition aims to pre-build the 6G business model

  • FPT joined a global group led by Qualcomm Technologies, announced at Mobile World Congress 2026, that aims to fix the slow and fragmented monetisation that has held back 5G network operators 3.
  • The plan uses milestones with early demonstrations, pre-commercial 6G networks targeted for 2028, plus commercial rollouts expected from 2029.
  • By lining up cloud providers such as Amazon and Google, device makers such as Samsung, and network vendors such as Ericsson, the group ties together the value chain years ahead of launch 4.
  • It treats 6G as an AI-native platform that combines ultra-high-performance connectivity, sensing, and distributed computing, so AI-native applications such as low-altitude aerial and terrestrial traffic management are built alongside the network 3.
