Vietnamese Clubhouse-style startup OnMic shuts down
OnMic, a Clubhouse-style streaming and voice chatting platform based out of Vietnam, is shutting down, the company said in a public announcement.
The company said the platform was created during Covid-19 to help people connect through audio.
The announcement did not give a reason for the closure or say when the service will go offline.
“We also want to thank Touchstone Partners, the VC that believed in us early on, trusted our team from the very beginning, and continues to support us even today,” OnMic co-founder Trung Nguyen said.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
OnMic’s quick start rode the global social audio wave
- OnMic was marketed as “Vietnam’s answer to Clubhouse,” a live audio chat app that took off during the pandemic, placing it in the social audio surge that crested in 2021 1.
- Within six months of launch, the startup raised an undisclosed seed round, an early stage of startup financing 2.
- Touchstone Partners, an investment firm, supplied that funding, giving the social audio bet local support 1.
The shutdown fits a return to pre-pandemic routines
- The closure of a venture-backed social audio platform lines up with the idea that demand was, at least in part, driven by lockdown life rather than a lasting shift 2.
- OnMic’s path underlines a common founder risk when building on a global craze. Long-term results hinge on whether the core product stays useful after the hype fades 1.
