Vietnam fines TikTok over data privacy violations
Vietnam’s Competition Commission (VCC) fined TikTok VND880 million (US$33,500) for lacking user consent mechanisms for data use.
The commission also cited the platform for providing potentially misleading information in its terms.
TikTok has not publicly responded to the VCC ruling, which underscores the growing risks for social media platforms operating under strict consumer protection and data privacy rules across countries.
In addition to TikTok, the commission also fined Zalo, a messaging platform operated by VNG Corp, VND810 million (US$30,900) for failing to provide mechanisms for users to control the scope of personal data they share.
The company said it has cooperated with authorities and is revising its policies.
