UK healthtech startup Sava raises $19m to scale glucose monitor
London-based healthtech startup Sava Technologies has raised US$19 million in series A funding led by Balderton Capital and Pentland Ventures.
Sava Technologies develops wearable biosensors for real-time molecular health monitoring.
The company plans to use the new funding to expand its team, increase manufacturing, and work toward regulatory approval.
Sava has now raised US$32 million in total funding from venture capital firms, angel investors, and government sources.
The funding follows early results from an ongoing clinical trial, where Sava’s continuous glucose monitor (CGM) showed up to 10 days of accurate readings in 25 diabetes patients.
Sava was founded in 2019 by Imperial College London bioengineers Renato Circi and Rafaël Michali.
The company said its technology uses a multi-molecule microsensor that detects biomarkers beneath the skin.
The clinical trial, involving 50 patients, is being conducted independently at sites in Oxford and Cambridge.

This technical hurdle exists because in vivo biosensors face ongoing issues with biological component degradation and signal drift, with few devices meeting all analytical requirements for extended in vivo use1.
The longevity challenge has historical significance. While the concept of biosensors dates back to 1906 and the first glucose biosensor was introduced in 1962 using glucose oxidase, achieving reliable extended wear time remains elusive decades later23.
Sava’s breakthrough could be commercially significant since sensor replacement frequency directly impacts both user convenience and ongoing costs, potentially addressing key barriers to broader CGM adoption.
