A major project led by Khazna Data Centers, a subsidiary of Emirati AI firm G42, is building what will be the world’s largest data center campus outside the US, powered by five gigawatts of electricity.
The facility is expected to serve a vast region covering up to four billion people.
Phase one of the campus, Stargate UAE, will be operated by OpenAI and backed by US tech firms including Oracle, Cisco, and Nvidia.
Microsoft recently announced plans to invest over US$15.2 billion in the UAE by 2029, after investing US$1.5 billion in G42 in 2024.
According to the UAE government, the country has invested over US$147 billion in AI since 2024, including up to US$58 billion in a one-gigawatt data center in France.

Companies must run ongoing due diligence including “Know Your Customer” (KYC) checks, plus purchase monitoring to stop chip diversion (rerouting chips to unauthorized end users) 2. Cumulative local expenditure reached 347 billion United Arab Emirates dirhams (AED) by the end of 2024 5.
- ICV-certified firms get an edge in government and semi-government tenders where ICV scores carry weight 45. AI infrastructure vendors and service providers can build a local base through Make it in the Emirates (a government initiative to localize manufacturing plus innovation) 4.
