Tesla said on June 16 that it filed an application with Taiwan’s Vehicle Safety Certification Center for its supervised Full Self-Driving system.

The driver-assistance feature would require regulatory approval before it can be offered in Taiwan.

The filing is an early step because VSCC certifies vehicle components and complete vehicles in Taiwan.

However, Tesla still needs the transport ministry to approve road testing and later issue final certification under the current review process.

Taiwan treats Tesla’s system as Level 2 driver assistance, meaning drivers must stay alert, keep their hands on the wheel, remain ready to take over, and retain responsibility when the system is engaged.

Tesla said FSD (Supervised) is available or approved in 13 countries and regions, including the US, China, Australia, South Korea, and several European markets.

The company said the system is also undergoing road testing in Japan.

The move could matter commercially because Tesla had a 45.8% share of Taiwan’s electric vehicle market through April 2026.
