🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ India-Japan tech partnership builds on decades of strategic collaboration

The $200 million Terex Ventures-Tokyo Ai collaboration represents the latest evolution in India-Japan relations that have deepened significantly since 2014, when Prime Ministers Modi and Abe elevated ties to a “Special Strategic and Global Partnership” 1.

Japan has historically been India’s largest donor since the 1950s, providing crucial support for infrastructure, education, and healthcare development 2.

This partnership now extends beyond traditional areas into cutting-edge technology, reflecting how bilateral relations have matured from post-WWII tensions to comprehensive cooperation spanning defense, infrastructure, and now AI 1.

The collaboration builds on an established foundation, as Japan has already invested over $10 billion in Indian startups, with major deals from firms like SoftBank in companies such as Paytm 3.

This progression from infrastructure to AI innovation illustrates how the relationship has adapted to capitalize on India’s emergence as the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem with over 135,000 recognized startups 3.
