Tencent Cloud, CGTrader partner on AI 3D content

Tencent Cloud announced a partnership with CGTrader at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona to integrate its Tencent HY 3D Global model into CGTrader’s planned AI-based 3D creation workflow.

CGTrader, a 3D model marketplace, said the integration will add an in-platform workflow that uses an API to generate 3D assets from 2D reference images, including geometry and PBR textures.

Tencent Cloud said the tool is meant to reduce manual work and shorten production cycles for 3D content used in areas such as design, gaming, and ecommerce.

CGTrader CEO Dalia Lasaite and Tencent Cloud Europe GM Fred Sun said the companies expect the workflow to help users create 3D models faster.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

CGTrader’s move into generative AI has been years in the making

  • Before the partnership announced at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, CGTrader said it was the world’s largest source for 3D content, with 2.79 million models 1.
  • Founded in 2011, it serves over 100 Fortune 500 clients. The community totals 12.6 million users 1.
  • The work with Tencent builds on a strategy CGTrader has pursued for years.
  • In its $9.5 million Series B round, CGTrader said it would use AI to automate 3D modeling, QA (quality assurance), and asset management 2.
  • Tencent Cloud gives CGTrader the compute and tools to pursue that plan. CGTrader’s customers include Nike and Microsoft 2.

The battle for 3D content is being fought in the cloud

  • Tencent Cloud is aiming to profit by selling the infrastructure behind a surge in 3D creation.
  • It offers its foundational Tencent HY 3D Global model as an enterprise-grade application programming interface (API), so other companies can build on it 3.
  • Partners can add AI features without paying to build or run their own infrastructure. Business-to-consumer (B2C) platform 3D AI Studio uses the same setup 4.
  • An API-first setup shifts competition away from marketplaces alone.
  • The edge may go to cloud back ends that help platforms ship assets faster and cheaper. That raises pressure on rivals such as Shutterstock-owned TurboSquid 2.
