Taiwan’s UMC June revenue jumps 22.9% to $722m

Taiwan-based United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), a contract chipmaker, said its unaudited consolidated revenue for June 2026 rose 22.9% from a year earlier to NT$23.1 billion (US$722 million), from NT$18.8 billion (US$588 million).

Revenue from January to June reached NT$129.8 billion (US$4.06 billion), up 11.3% from NT$116.6 billion (US$3.64 billion) a year earlier.

Based on UMC’s previously reported first-quarter revenue of NT$61.04 billion (US$1.91 billion), second-quarter revenue was about NT$68.7 billion (US$2.15 billion).

That was broadly in line with management’s April outlook for high-single-digit wafer shipment growth, utilization in the low-80% range, and a low-single-digit sequential increase in average selling prices.

UMC had said shipment growth was driven by a “strong rebound” in the communications segment, particularly in display controllers, networking chips, and image signal processors.

The company also said 22-nanometer and 28-nanometer chips were expected to be the main drivers of the quarter’s sequential increase in average selling prices.

UMC said in April it would raise prices in the second half of 2026 to reflect higher raw-material, energy, and logistics costs.
