South Korea, UAE partner to advance AI innovation

South Korea’s presidential AI committee will set up a task force to boost AI collaboration with the United Arab Emirates.

The team will be led by the presidential secretary for AI policy and future planning and the vice chair of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

This move follows agreements made during a recent summit between South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The task force will coordinate a joint public-private system to support the partnership and propose investment projects by the end of the year.

Five working groups, managed by different government ministries including Science and ICT and Climate, Environment and Energy, will make up the team.

The two countries signed seven MOUs to expand cooperation in AI, energy, and defense.

South Korea will also join the UAE’s Stargate project, which plans to develop AI data centers in Abu Dhabi, starting with a 200-megawatt facility next year as part of a larger AI campus.
